For years the large number of people participating in the Dutch Disability Insurance Act (WAO) has been subject of political debate and scientific investigation. To reduce the WAO volume the government has reformed disability regulations several times. This book studies when and why employees leave the WAO and how this is affected by changes in regulations. Four questions are central to the approach in this book. Which WAO participants are more likely to decide to reenter the labour market and search for a job? Which of these job-searchers are more likely to be hired by employers? How do WAO administrators decide on the residual earning capacity of WAO participants? And, how do changes in regulations affect these three decisions?
