Invoice Value

This article is really a sub-article of Understanding Book Sales Reports. Please click to see that page before this one, unless you have already seen it.

Invoice Value will refer to Month and Year to Date, abbreviated as "Month" and "YTD"

"Invoice Value" shown in the basic sales report is the net invoice value of copies sold, the value of copies invoiced minus the value of copies returned and credited.  If we invoice one £10.00 book to a bookshop at 35% discount the invoice value will be £6.50. If in a month we invoice out one book to a wholesaler price at £10,00 with a dicount of 50% the invoice value would be £5.00. Imagine in the same month of selling that one book to a wholesaler (invoice value £5.00) a bookshop returned a copy at 35% discount  then the calculation for invoice value in that month is £5.00 - £6.50 = minus £1.50 but for copy sales it would be 1 - 1 = 0. So the book would show 0 net sales and minus £1.50

"Month" is the calendar month specified at the top of the report.

"YTD" stands for Year to Date, this is the financial year running April - March. If the report is for August the Invocie Value YTD will be the net invoice value of sales since April 1st including those sold in November.

All the figures are inclusive, in the example shown Understanding Book Sales Reports the YTD figure includes the August sales.

Invoice Value in the example shown at Understanding Book Sales Reports

This column shows invoice value of sales in the Month and Year to date (YTD). In the 3rd row of the example 181 copies of Maternity Handbook 7th have been sold in the month of August anf their invoice value in August is 2457.40, the YTD invoice value is round to the pound and is £16,119. Looking at row 2, 4 copies of Maternity Handbook 6th have been returned in the financial year giving a net figure of minus 4, this has an invoice value of minus 47 for the YTD.

At the bottom of the table you can see the net monthly turnover is £2,567.16 and the turnover YTD is £18,534. This is the total for all the books.
