An engaging memoir by Gren Middleton, co-founder of the Puppet Theatre Barge on the river Thames.
"I liked the fact that for Gren and Juliet this wasn't an arbitrary stop-gap until something better came along, it was their dream...
...The book is much more than an account of their experiment in puppet theatre, it's also the autobiography of a Middleton, and Gren's tale of his ancestors has a strong theme of travel and adventure as he traces his family back to Victorian entrepreneurship in South Africa, where he was born."

Gren Middleton, born in South Africa, trained as a lighting cameraman and photographed some 14 feature films, as well as numerous documentary films and TV dramas before setting up Movingstage Marionette company with his wife Juliet. The company was established in 1979 with the aim of producing marionette drama. This type of theatre requires all elements to be in accord, including the venue. In 1982, after extensive touring, the company opened a 55 seat theatre on a river barge.
The theatre is now an established venue on the London theatre scene and is based at Little Venice, London. Each year, during the summer, the floating theatre makes a tour of the river Thames. It has been open for nearly four decades and during that time has hosted thousands of performances.
