During the first world lockdown in early 2020, I stumbled across some negatives of images I’d made in 1977-1976, during three weekend visits to the busy street market town of Stockport, England. I started scanning and posting the images on social media. The response was immediate and enthusiastic, especially when 23 of the images were published in The Guardian in January 2021. Names and heartfelt memories of this period in Stockport poured in from people around the world. This led to a very busy six months, involving a successful Kickstarter campaign and the realisation of this beautiful hardback photo book which includes submitted identities and memories.
